Course Information
Description Instruction in the artistry of hair design. Topics include theory, techniques and application of hair design.
Prerequisites 1. First semester Courses: CSME 1553, CSME 1410, CSME 1501, CSME 2202
Learning Outcomes 1.Practices all and safety measures that protect individual and public health. (PSLO 2) measured by TDLR's requirements pertaining to disinfection, sanitation and sterilization.

2. Demonstrates proficiency in all cosmetology skills.(PSLO 3) measured by Arranging the hair into an up do style.

3. Demonstrates proficiency in all cosmetology skills.(PSLO 3) measured by Unit exam Chapter 16 Braiding.

4. Prepares to take State Board requirements (PSLO 2) measured by TDLR requirements with the state laws.


CSLO 1: Assemble practical state board bags with labels according to requirements of the exam.

CSLO 2: Verify the point system required to make a passing grade. Measured on written and practical assignments.
CSLO 3: Memorize and repeat the steps for each state board procedure.

Note: Practical Packet Worksheets will be passed for a skills grade and special assignment grade, please make sure to turn them in on time.

Note on Final Exam: Written Exam will be online-Blackboard, you will have 60 minutes to complete the exam once you open it up. Please make sure you are prepared once you start the exam, and do not wait until the last minute.

Note on Exam: All exams must be taken on the day that it is assigned and with in the time frame listed. Students should adhere to the time as if you were taking it face to face.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.

*Upon clocking in, all students must be in their assigned classroom or lab and on task at all times.*

* Every student MUST have a copy of the required textbooks by the second week of class. The student will still be responsible for any assignments given.

* Students are responsible for completing all assigned reading. Read over chapters PRIOR to class even if reading was not assigned.

* Poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment. With this factor in mind, the instructor monitors student course activity weekly.

* Class participation is required. It is important to be active within the course.

* Assignments and due dates are posted weekly in your course. Check your calendar; check the announcements; check your email; and check the To-Do List.

* Students are responsible for being prepared for class. The student is responsible for completing all assigned homework, including reading assignments, and doing so by required due dates.

    *** DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPLETE CLASSWORK AND EXAMS. ***

* COMPUTER FAILURE AND LACK OF INTERNET ACCESS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE EXCUSES FOR MISSED ASSIGNMENTS, PROJECTS, QUIZZES, EXAMS, ETC.

Attendance Policy Regular class attendance is important to the attainment of the educational objectives of the college. The cosmetology program has formulated an attendance policy that is consistent with the objectives of the program and the needs of the student to fulfill all necessary requirements needed.

Face to Face Lab Time: 2 days a week for a total of 6 hours.
Online Theory / Lab: At least 3 hours a week.

Any days missed must be made up online through Blackboard, Microsoft Teams (Video Discussions), Quizlet/Quizlet Live etc.

Attendance will be monitored daily.

Attendance Documentation has to be available for the TDLR Inspector to show theory and practical skills, online and face to face.

Special Assignments and Attendance is 15% of your over all grade

Exams: Make-up exams will NOT be given. All exams must be taken on the day that it is assigned and with in the time frame listed. Students should adhere to the time as if you were taking it face to face.

Texas Department of Licensing & Regulations mandates the completion of all modules (courses) to be eligible to take the state board exam.

Lamar State College-Port Arthur mandates the completion of all cosmetology classes with a C or better to attain the knowledge and skills needed to pass your State board exam.




Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

Other CELLPHONE POLICY

1.    Students may NOT use their cell phone/smart watch during theory and lab time. Cell phones are not allowed on the lab floor, theory classroom during theory, in your pocket, reception desk, dispensary or supply caddy. When not in use, cell phones should be turned off or on silent. Students may use their cellphones/smart watch on BREAK and BREAK ONLY and in designated areas ONLY. (Theory classroom, break room, gazebo area)

DRESS CODE POLICY

Every student must be in uniform before clocking in and remain in uniform at all times. Failure to comply with these requirements, student will be and sent home until in compliance with LSCPA cosmetology dress code.
The requirements are as follow:
1.    SOLID BLACK scrub top and scrub pants, black lab jacket or vest. A black skirt may be worn, below the knee. Scrub pants must be hemmed, (not stapled, pinned, or taped) at least ONE INCH from the floor. Armpits cannot be visible at any time.
2.     The uniform must be ironed or wrinkle-free.
3.    Approved Lamar Cosmetology t-shirts may be worn with black scrub pants.
4.    A long sleeve shirt (any color) may be worn under scrub top. No hoodies.
5.    Jewelry - Limit your jewelry for safety, sanitation and practicality.
6.    Tennis shoes or workforce shoes must be worn at all times.
7.    No hats, caps, wave caps or wrap caps, scarves allowed while on the clock.
8.    LSCPA Cosmetology emblem ONLY displayed on your lab jacket or scrub top.
9.    All non-compliance jackets MUST be removed before clocking in.
10.    Hair must be neat and presentable daily. (Remember you are your biggest advertisement)
11. Nails / Nail Enhancement should be well trimmed, manicured and a practical length.

DRESS CODE VIOLATION: Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the loss of hours and sent home until in compliance with LSCPA cosmetology dress code.
